Establishment of the UFS Directorate Research Development
In 2000 the University of the Free State (UFS) leadership initiated a process to reorient and strengthen the role and performance of the University in research. As cornerstone of the new approach, a Research Turnaround Strategy was launched to bolster research as one of the three core functions of the University and as the backbone of academic quality, first shifting research development from an administrative to a strategic function, and more recently accelerating efforts to place it at the core of all academic activity. Central to this shift, the Directorate for Research Development (DRD) was established and the first Director: Research Development appointed in Aug 2002.
